National College of Art and Design offers the largest range of art and design degrees in Ireland at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The College's campus is situated in Thomas Street, in the historic Liberties area of Dublin. The College has 1,000 full time students and a further six hundred students who are taking evening courses. The College has four faculties: Design, Education, Fine Art and Visual Culture.

A tutorial system operates throughout the College and many of the courses are project based. Students' progress is monitored at the end of projects, and by examination at the end of each year.

The Faculty of Fine Art teaching combines the traditional disciplines such as drawing and painting with an open experimental approach which allows individuals to realise their ideas in a wide range of media.

The Design Faculty is the largest in the College and comprises ceramics, glass, metals, fashion design, industrial and product design, textile design and visual communication.

The Faculty of Visual Culture interacts with other faculties in providing the visual culture elements of all NCAD degrees. The Faculty of Visual Culture also offers an undergraduate degree in Visual Culture as well as a number of postgraduate taught and research degrees (PhD).

The Faculty of Education provides for the education of teachers of art, craft and design in second-level schools. There are two modes available: the four-year joint honours degree in Design or Fine Art and Education, and the one-year postgraduate Professional Diploma in Art and Design Education. The Faculty also provides a Graduate Diploma in Community Arts Education.

NCAD drives radical and creative innovation through excellence in research-led art and design education. It empowers its students to shape the contemporary world through critical practice, studio-based learning, research and engagement.

Studying at Art & Design College is different, it is about learning through practice and research, through making, through doing and through creating. NCAD has always had critical practice at the heart of its curriculum. The graduates, whether in Design, Fine Art, Education or Visual Culture are equipped to approach situations, questions or challenges through a process of thinking creatively that they learn while students here. They are well qualified to bring their creativity and skills to many different careers when they leave NCAD, and NCAD graduates have gone on to make their mark in many areas of the economy and society.
